# What to Do If Your iPhone Won’t Turn On

If your iPhone refuses to power up, don’t panic. Here are several steps you can try to bring it back to life:

- **Start by charging the battery**  
It might seem obvious, but your iPhone could simply be out of power. Plug it into a charger and let it sit for at least 30 minutes before trying to turn it on again.

- **Try a force restart**  
If the screen stays black, perform a force restart. On older models, press and hold the **Home** and **Sleep/Wake** buttons simultaneously. On iPhone X and newer, press and hold **Volume Down** and **Sleep/Wake** until the Apple logo appears.

- **Check for software updates via computer**  
Sometimes, a software issue prevents the device from booting. Connect your iPhone to a computer with iTunes (or Finder on macOS) and follow the prompts to check for and install any available updates.

- **Restore your iPhone if necessary**  
If updating doesn’t help, you may need to restore the device to factory settings. Again, connect it to a computer and follow the instructions in iTunes or Finder.  
⚠ Keep in mind: restoring will erase all data, so make sure you’ve backed up your important files beforehand.

- **Reach out to Apple Support**  
If none of the above steps work, it’s time to contact Apple Support. The issue might be hardware-related, such as a faulty battery or internal component, and may require professional repair or replacement.
